Piping Services- at a glance

Every occasion is different- the standard is the same.

Weddings & Civil Partnerships

From piping the bride into the ceremony to leading the newly married couple out into the sunshine, the pipes add a dimension to a wedding that no other instrument can replicate. I provide bridal processional piping, recessional marches, outdoor photography piping, signing of the register, and piping in the wedding meal.

I've played at weddings at castles, country houses, barns, hotels, and churches across the Midlands & South Wales and I work with couples and their venue coordinators to make sure everything fits seamlessly into the day. Booking early is recommended for summer Saturdays — popular dates go quickly.

Funerals & Memorial Services

Funeral piping is the heart of my work and the area where experience matters most. I provide graveside and committal piping, church and chapel services, crematorium services, military and veterans' funerals, and memorial and remembrance events throughout a wide area.

I work closely with families and funeral directors to ensure the piping fits the occasion perfectly. I'm experienced in all funeral settings and all denominations, and I will always discuss music and arrangements in advance so the family knows exactly what to expect. No surprises on the day.

Commonly requested funeral pieces include Amazing Grace, Flowers of the Forest, Going Home, Abide With Me, Highland Cathedral, The Green Hills of Tyrol, Dark Island, and any piece of personal significance can be prepared on request.

Burns Suppers & Hogmanay

A Burns Night without a piper is a Burns Night that's missing its centrepiece! I provide arrival piping, the ceremonial piping in of the haggis — the moment that brings every room to its feet — and post-dinner performance for Burns Night suppers throughout the region. I often get booked a year in advance so please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Corporate Events

A professional piper commands attention like nothing else at a corporate event. Whether it's piping guests into a gala dinner, adding drama to an awards ceremony, or providing entertainment at a product launch or corporate hospitality event — the impact is immediate and memorable!

Other Occasions

If your occasion doesn't fit neatly into any of the above — a private party, a parade, a sporting event, a fete, a regimental dinner, a St Andrew's Day or St David's Day celebration — please get in touch. I'm happy to discuss any engagement and will always give you a straight answer about whether I can help.

Scottish Smallpipes

Scottish Smallpipes are the ideal instrument for occasions where bagpipes are required- but at a lower volume! For venues where there are sound restrictions, the Scottish Smallpipes still give the authentic bagpipe sound- without the volume of the Great Highland Bagpipe.

Bagpipe Tuition

I offer 1-to-1 tuition for the Great Highland Bagpipe via video or in-person lessons. I teach from a beginner to an intermediate standard.

What do I need?

You will need a good quality, Scottish made practice chanter (of which I can advise on purchasing) and a strong desire to learn. You don't require any prior musical knowledge although it is preferable. Typically, it takes between 9 and 12 months on the chanter before progressing to the pipes.

Tartans

I offer a selection of 100% Scottish Wool kilts, worn proudly, in 4 choices of tartans. Whatever the event or colour scheme on the day, I can offer an authentic and smart Highland dress to match!

Modern Gordon

This is my primary & family tartan, which is worn proudly as a member of the Gordon Clan.

Ramsey Blue Ancient

Vibrant and eye-catching, this is a smart tartan which is a popular choice for summer weddings

Royal Stewart

One of the most recognised and popular tartans the world over. An excellent tartan available to request

Flower of Scotland

A universal tartan which was designed in Edinburgh in 1990. This is worn as a personal alternative choice to Gordon.

Piper to the City of Hereford

Simon is Piper to the City of Hereford, a unique position he was awarded in 2021 and performs for several high-profile civic events including Remembrance Sunday, beacon lightings etc, in Hereford and Herefordshire throughout the year. Strictly for this role, Simon wears the distinct and smart Ramsey Blue tartan.
